桂林乳胶厂于1966年由国家原化工部投资建设，是国家化工部重点企业和国家人口与计划生育委员会避孕套定点生产厂家，国家二级企业，中国乳胶行业协会理事长单位，中国橡胶工业协会乳胶分会所在地。经过四十多年的发展，企业现有职工1000余人，工程技术人员占职工人数的30%，生产区占地面积12万平方米，年消耗乳胶4500吨，是中国乳胶制品生产、出口基地，年工业总产值超2.25亿元。其中，避孕套生产能力达10亿只，医用手套生产能力达6600万副，检查手套生产能力达7000万副，主要产品还有橡胶家用手套、耐酸碱工业手套、劳保手套、胶管等，避孕套出口占全国出口总量40%。
